The film Gladiator was a huge success in the year 2000, bringing the glory and passion of the Roman Empire back to the big screen. The music for the film was compose by Hand Zimmer and the movements The Battle and Barbarian Horde embody the muical essence of the score. Curiouisly, the music for The Battle is based on the Viennese waltz form. Hans Zimmer took this well-defined style and structure and transformed it into a wild, turbulent piece full of energy nd rythmic drive. The same atmosphere is echoed in Barbarian Horde.

This brass band setting was created by Klaas van der Woude.
