Commissioned by the Blackley Band for its programme at the French Open Championships, Out of Shadows provides a multitude of contrasts, providing opportunity for fast, technical playing as well as slow, lyrical melodies. The piece does not tell a story as such, with the title deriving from the contrasting moods apparent within the piece.
